Scrutineering at McEnearney Quality Inc, Wildey
Local
competitors who have spent the past few weeks working on their cars in
advance of the sixth annual Barbados Rally Carnival have just two more
days to complete their preparations. The first of two scrutineering
sessions is scheduled for 1.30pm this Saturday (May 20) at the premises
of McEnearney Quality Inc at Wildey.
Although still carrying the title Local Scrutineering, Saturday's
session will not include every one of the Barbados entries; in light of
a number of cars still being out of the island and others undergoing
repairs from recent accidents, a number of local crews will join the
overseas entries at the same venue for International Scrutineering the
following Friday evening (May 26).
The countdown is continuing steadily for the two events of Rally
Carnival, the Red Bull International RallySprint at the Vaucluse
Raceway on Saturday, May 27, and Rally Barbados 2006, which will be
contested over the following weekend (June 3/4). The RallySprint,
organised by the Vaucluse Raceway Motor Sport Club (VRMSC) is the final
round of this year's VRW RallySprint Cup, while each day of RB'06,
organised by the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) is a separate round of the
Texaco BRC Rally Championship and the Virgin Atlantic BRC Driver's
Championship.
The BRC's vice-chairman Barry Gale said: "We have divided the cars
entered more evenly between the two scrutineering sessions, in light of
the slightly smaller numbers. It will enable our technical team,
working under Simon Gillmore and Adrian Linton, to work under less
pressure, to ensure that all the necessary checks are undertaken with
the greatest care. One of the key focuses of these scrutineering
sessions is to ensure that each vehicle comes up to our stringent
safety standards, which is of vital importance to the safe running of
our event."
Among the 40 cars listed to appear at Saturday's session, those
likely to attract the most attention among island enthusiasts are Sammy
Cumberbatch's new BMW M3 and the Mark I Ford Escorts of returnee Stuart
McChlery and Julian Goddard.
